NI-9853 only supports the API shown above. Therefore, the channel API is not available at the FPGA level. However, at the real-time controller level, you can use the frame channel conversion library to convert the received frame into a channel, and convert the NI-9853 channel into a transmission frame. Frames and channels can also be converted using the NI-CAN driver installed on CompactRIO, but this may be more troublesome, and NI-CAN does not support all cRIO targets. NI-CAN uses CAN virtual ports to convert channels and frames. CompactRIO controllers (cRIO 900290049081 and 9082) use the Pharlap or WES7 operating system supported by NI-CAN. Once NI-CAN is installed on the development machine, it must also be installed on CompactRIO from the Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX). NI - CAN VI will be provided on the palette when developing CompactRIO real-time VI. Subsequent cRIO controllers use VxWorks or NI Linux real-time operating systems, which are not supported by NI-CAN. However, if you want to convert a frame to a channel/from a channel, you can do this without NI-CAN on a VxWorks controller with a frame channel conversion library. The CAN1 port on the 9853 is designed to power up the CAN bus. This is because the cRIO backplane cannot provide enough power for the module as the CAN0 port, so that it can be powered internally. You can use CAN1 by using the powered CAN bus or by connecting the external power supply to the connector. Note: 9852 requires both ports to be powered up.
