The PQM-T20-A function code is the second byte of each transmission. Modbus defines the codes for functions 1 through 127. PQM-T20-A implements some of these functions. Refer to 2.1 Support Modbus function for detailed information on supported function codes. Transmit the function code in the master request to tell the slave what operation to perform. In the slave response, if the function code sent by the slave device is the same as the function code, the transmission is sent from the master device, and then the slave device executes the function as requested. PQM-T20-A If the bit of the function code sent by the higher-order slave device is 1 (that is, if the function code is>127), then the slave device is not performing the function as requested and is sending error or exception response data, which is a variable number of bytes, depending on the function code. This may be a description of the support function sent by the master device to the slave device or sent by the slave device to the master

The RTU version of Modbus includes a 2-byte CRC-16 (16 bit cyclic redundancy check) per transmission. The CRC-16 algorithm essentially processes the entire data stream (data only; ignoring start, stop, and parity) as a continuous binary number. This number is first shifted 16 bits to the left, and then divided by the characteristic polynomial (110000000000101b). The remainder of 16 bits is appended to the end of the transmission, with MSByte taking precedence. The result message, including the CRC, generates a zero remainder at the receiver if no transmission error occurs when dividing by the same polynomial. If the PQM-T20-A Modbus slave device receives an error indicating a CRC-16 calculation, the slave device will not respond to the transmission. A CRC-16error indicates that one or more bytes of the transmission were incorrectly received, and therefore the entire transmission should be ignored to avoid any incorrect operation by PQM-T20-A. CRC-16 calculation is an industry standard method for error detection. The algorithms included here are designed to assist programmers in calculating routine availability without the standard CRC-16
